Day two of DioCon was one for the history books! 🙌

Our youth shared lunch and conversation with Bishop Scharf, joined the wider diocese in worship, and witnessed a historic moment as Convention adopted the Youth Presence resolution — officially giving young people a voice and seat in our diocesan life.

This marks a major step forward for our Church and a powerful reminder that the Spirit is at work through this generation. Thank you to everyone who continues to pray for and support our youth. The future of the Church is growing right here, right now. 💛

As we started our final morning together, we reflected on how God was moving last night not only through the Cursillo serenade, but also through the prayer stations we experienced afterwards. We are grateful to have had these opportunities to connect to God and to one another ❤️

We are heartbroken to share with you the sudden passing of Buddy Payne, Director of Camp and Outdoors at DaySpring.

Since joining our DaySpring community in March, Buddy quickly became a bright light among our team. His infectious energy and joy spread out like branches, bringing love to all he met. He created a safe and spirit-filled home for more than 250 campers this summer at Camp DaySpring, building a camp staff family that served young people across our diocese. We are very grateful for his time in the diocese and the joyful impact he made at DaySpring and among our Episcopal Youth Community.

In the coming weeks, we will share information regarding a memorial gathering at DaySpring. Campers from this summer who would like to connect with their camp chaplain for pastoral care may reach out to Morgan Brownlee directly at mbrownlee@episcopalswfl.org.

Please join us in praying for Buddy’s family, the DaySpring and Camp DaySpring Staff. Pray also for those camps and dioceses where Buddy shared his ministry, and for all who are grieving.

Staff training week has come to an end! What a perfect way to wrap it up - high ropes and a beach trip! We can't wait to welcome our first campers later today!

Staff started the day out on the Manatee River and finished it with Camp Dayspring Staff Olympics and some downtime. We are having a blast but can't wait to welcome our first campers on Tuesday!

DaySpring Episcopal Camp and Conference Center is thrilled to announce Buddy Payne as its new Director of Camp and Outdoors. Buddy will begin work at DaySpring on March 31.

A native of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, Buddy is joining the DaySpring leadership team after serving more than 15 years in a variety of roles including a nine-year tenure as Associate Camp Director at Camp Trinity, a well-known and beloved Episcopal camp in the Diocese of East Carolina.

An avid fisherman and kayaker, Buddy brings extensive experience and enthusiasm for the outdoors and will provide supervision to all of DaySpring’s outdoor offerings and DaySpring Summer Camp. Buddy also serves as Lay Youth Minister at St. Peter’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Swansboro, North Carolina, and has been involved with Episcopal youth ministry programs throughout his entire life.

“I am delighted to welcome someone with Buddy’s experience to our team,” said Brad Thompson, DaySpring’s Executive Director. “Buddy is known as a jack-of-all-trades, with the type of creativity and drive that made him develop from summer staffer to year-round leader, to vital member of the Trinity Center’s year-round staff. There is not one department his leadership doesn’t touch but during interviews I could see it is the campers that bring him the most joy – and it’s that respect and attention for all young people that helps me to know we found just the right leader. I can’t wait for everyone to meet him!”

“This is an incredible opportunity and new adventure for me,” said Payne. “Youth camp programs mean the world to me and I am so excited to be a part of the DaySpring team.”
