I am from Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church in Valrico and I am a senior in high school. I first experienced Happening in 2024 at Happening #87. Even with heavy hearts, the Diocesan Youth Council gathered for the first time this past weekend, holding space for grief while still choosing to show up for one another. WELCOME TO OUR NEW CAMP DIRECTOR! @dayspringfla and @episcopalflorida are delighted to announce that Caitlin Martin has accepted the call to serve as the next Director of Camp and Outdoors @campdayspringfla “I am so excited to return to my roots and serve The Episcopal Church again,” Martin said. “I have watched with great interest what Camp DaySpring is doing, and it is clearly something special. I cannot wait to join the team and help build on the momentum already happening in Southwest Florida.”

The final day of Prov IV brought inspiration and purpose: Mike Wiley’s civil rights performance, a group reflection activity with a special poem reading by our very own Scott, creative prayer spaces from SWFL and WNC, an advocacy session full of action steps, diocesan conversation circles, and a meaningful commissioning in worship and prayer. Proud of these young leaders and the ministries they represent. 🕊️✨

Day 2 Province IV! We had an incredible day diving deep into the history of the civil rights movement here in Greensboro, and how that impacts social justice, youth leadership and advocacy today. We first visited the International Civil Rights Museum, which left a last impression on us all. Afterwards we debriefed our individual experiences by identifying what stuck with us, how we’d communicate our experience to our own communities, and what we would each like to say to Jesus. We wrapped up the afternoon with a healing service and Eucharist, led by Canon Lindsey Ardrey - the Canon Missioner for Diocesan Restitution and Reparations Ministry. It was a full and meaningful day - we can’t wait for tomorrow!

Our youth shared lunch and conversation with Bishop Scharf, joined the wider diocese in worship, and witnessed a historic moment as Convention adopted the Youth Presence resolution — officially giving young people a voice and seat in our diocesan life.

This marks a major step forward for our Church and a powerful reminder that the Spirit is at work through this generation. Thank you to everyone who continues to pray for and support our youth. The future of the Church is growing right here, right now. 💛

✨ Saturday: Back at the Convention Center for worship, the official business session, a Bishop's round table lunch, and a youth-led resolution for future canonical participation of youth in convention!

From morning prayer to vision-casting for youth + young adult ministries, the room was filled with energy. 🙌 Some joined us for the whole journey, others popped in for part of the day—but everyone added to the spirit of connection. We are heartbroken to share with you the sudden passing of Buddy Payne, Director of Camp and Outdoors at DaySpring.

Since joining our DaySpring community in March, Buddy quickly became a bright light among our team. His infectious energy and joy spread out like branches, bringing love to all he met. He created a safe and spirit-filled home for more than 250 campers this summer at Camp DaySpring, building a camp staff family that served young people across our diocese. We are very grateful for his time in the diocese and the joyful impact he made at DaySpring and among our Episcopal Youth Community.

In the coming weeks, we will share information regarding a memorial gathering at DaySpring. Campers from this summer who would like to connect with their camp chaplain for pastoral care may reach out to Morgan Brownlee directly at mbrownlee@episcopalswfl.org.

Please join us in praying for Buddy’s family, the DaySpring and Camp DaySpring Staff. Pray also for those camps and dioceses where Buddy shared his ministry, and for all who are grieving.
